League Biography

Football Gurus was founded in 2004 when a group of friends decided to turn their shared obsession with football into something more competitive — and far more permanent. What began as a simple fantasy league quickly became an annual ritual that has now spanned more than two decades and 22 completed seasons.

The early years established the foundation. Original members battled through the growing pains of the mid-2000s, setting records, building rivalries, and creating the culture that still defines the league today. Over time the roster evolved. Some managers came and went, others joined and stayed, but the core competitive spirit never left.

Championships have been claimed by a select few. Sean Kelleher leads all managers with five titles (2004, 2008, 2015, 2020, and 2024). Others have taken home the trophy multiple times, including Moosh, Danny Brown, Devin Stallard, and Charlie Potts. The league has also produced dominant single seasons, marathon winning streaks, historic blowouts, and the occasional 10–2 final score that still gets brought up in group chats.

Not everyone has tasted championship glory. Among the longest-tenured managers, Jordan Bucher and Keith Jasin stand out as the most patient. Both have been part of the league since its earliest days (Keith with a multi-year break in the middle), yet neither has ever won the title. Their continued presence serves as a reminder that longevity and championships don’t always travel together.

Today Football Gurus remains one of the longest-running fantasy leagues of its kind. The drafts still happen. The trash talk still flows. The records keep falling. And every fall, a new group of contenders lines up for another shot at the trophy — some chasing their first, others chasing their next.
